Password Generator — Strong Random Passwords

A password generator creates strong, random passwords in your browser. Nothing is sent to a server or stored — the password exists only on your device.

Strength: WeakGenerated in your browser — never sent anywhere

How it works

  1. Choose a length — 16 characters is a good default.
  2. Pick what to include: upper-case letters, numbers and symbols.
  3. Click Generate, check the strength meter, and copy your password.

Formula

Passwords are generated with crypto.getRandomValues() — your browser's secure random number generator

Worked example

A 16-character password using upper-case, lower-case, numbers and symbols has about 95 bits of strength — far stronger than a short word-based password. Longer passwords are always harder to guess.

Frequently asked questions

How do I create a strong password?

Use at least 12–16 characters with a mix of upper-case, lower-case, numbers and symbols, and never reuse a password across sites.

How long should a password be?

At least 12 characters, and 16 or more for important accounts like email and banking. Length matters more than complexity.

What makes a password secure?

Length, randomness and uniqueness. A long random password that you use on only one site is far safer than a short clever one you reuse everywhere.

Is a random password generator safe?

This one generates passwords in your browser using crypto.getRandomValues(), a secure random generator. The password is never sent anywhere — but always store it in a password manager, not in plain text.

Should I use a passphrase instead?

A passphrase of four or five random words can be both strong and memorable. Use the passphrase option above if you prefer words over symbols.

How often should I change my password?

You do not need to change strong, unique passwords on a schedule. Change a password immediately if that service has a data breach.
