5 Miles (mi) = 8.0467 Kilometres (km)
Type in either box — the conversion works both ways, instantly.

How it works

  1. Choose what to convert: length, weight or temperature.
  2. Enter a value and pick the units to convert from and to.
  3. The answer appears instantly. Swap the units or type in the second box to convert back.

Formula

Length and weight use fixed factors (1 mile = 1.60934 km; 1 kg = 2.20462 lb). Temperature uses °C = (°F − 32) × 5⁄9 and K = °C + 273.15.

Worked example

5 miles is 8.05 kilometres (5 × 1.60934). 10 kilograms is 22.05 pounds (10 × 2.20462). And 68°F is exactly 20°C ((68 − 32) × 5 ÷ 9).

Frequently asked questions

How many kilometres is 5 miles?

5 miles is 8.05 kilometres. Multiply miles by 1.60934 to get kilometres.

How do I convert kg to pounds?

Multiply kilograms by 2.20462. So 10 kg is 22.05 lb. To go the other way, divide pounds by 2.20462.

How do I convert Fahrenheit to Celsius?

Subtract 32 from the Fahrenheit temperature, then multiply by 5⁄9. So 68°F is (68 − 32) × 5⁄9 = 20°C.

What is the difference between metric and imperial units?

Metric units (metres, kilograms, Celsius) are decimal-based and used in most of the world. Imperial units (miles, pounds, Fahrenheit) are used mainly in the USA, with the UK mixing both.

How many grams are in an ounce?

One ounce is 28.35 grams. One pound is 16 ounces, or 453.59 grams.

Can I convert Celsius to Kelvin?

Yes — add 273.15 to Celsius to get Kelvin. So 20°C is 293.15 K. Kelvin starts at absolute zero, so it is never negative.
